Medical Weight Loss
At thriveMD we use diet and nutritional counseling along with several doctor formulated weight loss plans. Our most popular weight loss plan is the HCG diet. This is our most popular for one simple reason; IT WORKS! We also offer Vitamin B12 and MIC (Methionine, Inositol and Choline) injections that can be added to one of our weight loss programs or taken by themselves to assist you with your weight loss. We enjoy discussing other diet alternatives and will work with you to develop a weight loss program that works for you.
The B12 vitamin injections are important to keep the brain and nervous system functioning normally and for the formation of red blood cells. By synthesizing and regulating DNA, B12 is involved in cellular metabolism and may boost your metabolism. It also plays a vital role in fatty acid synthesis and energy production. Many medications, certain medical conditions, some diets and the normal aging process can lead to a B12 deficiency. Injections are the best way to ensure your body gets the B12 if you are B12 deficient.
B12 + MIC Fat-Burner Injections
The vitamin cocktail included in the B12 + MIC Fat-Burner shots are compounds that enhance liver function and increase the flow of fats and bile from the liver and gallbladder. By definition, MIC shots contain lipotropic substances that decrease the deposit, or speeds up the removal of fat within the liver. The key amino acids used to make these shots are: Vitamin B12, Choline, Methione, and Inositol.
Vitamin B12 is essential for helping to form new, healthy cells in the body. It also boosts energy, helping to increase activity levels. It is important to note that all B12’s are NOT created equally. There are several different forms of B12. The two most common are cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin. The cyanocobalamin is a synthetic form that is much cheaper but not the form you body uses. At thriveMD we never use cyanocobalamin in any of our supplements, IV’s or injections. There is a much better, much healthier form….methylcobalamin!
Choline supports the health of the liver in its processing and excretion of chemical waste products within the body. Moreover, it is required for the transport and metabolism of fats and cholesterol within the body, which is important for the healthy support of the endocrine, cardiovascular and hepatic systems.
Methione is one of the sulphur-containing amino acids (cysteine & cystine are others) and is important for many bodily functions. It acts as a lipotropic agent to prevent excess fat buildup in the liver and the body, is helpful in relieving or preventing fatigue and may be useful in some cases of allergy because it reduces histamine release. Patients with a Sulfa allergy should not take this injection.
Inositol, a nutrient belonging to the B vitamin complex, is closely associated with choline. It aids in the metabolism of fats and helps reduce blood cholesterol. Inositol participates in the action of serotonin, a neurotransmitter known to control mood and appetite.
The HCG Diet
HCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, a hormone present in both men and women, but which is produced in great amounts in pregnant females (what gives the positive result on a urine pregnancy test). During pregnancy, the substance almost completely controls the woman’s metabolic functions. In non-pregnant persons, research suggests HCG similarly increases the metabolism similar to a pregnant female. Thousands of calories in stored fat are released, and are used by the body or expelled. To keep the fat cells from immediately taking in more fat, the very low fat VLCD (very low calorie diet) is necessary and lipid containing personal care products such as lotion are prohibited.
The HCG diet was originally developed by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons to aid clinically obese patients in quickly returning to a safer weight zone to avoid deadly health conditions. Research of 40 years and thousands of cases conducted by Dr. Simeons has led to the concept of the HCG diet, which is meant to be a healthier interpretation and implementation of weight loss rather than the purely cosmetic, over-hyped diets of today. Unlike other mainstream diets, the HCG diet refocuses one’s attention to smaller portions, less fatty foods, less fatty topical products and structured routines that promote more long-term weight-loss. It was not developed solely for the purpose of losing weight to look good.
Dr. A.T.W. Simeons’ research suggests a small, daily injection (also available in sub-lingual or under the tongue dosing) of HCG, results in an average weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs. a day when accompanied by a VLCD. This combination helps to reset one’s metabolism for long-term weight loss.
Dr. Simeons’ research covered forty years of grappling with the fundamental problem of being over-weight. Throughout those fifty years he investigated every new theory, method and promising lead. He experimentally screened and critically evaluated each aspect.
Upon his death in 1970 he stated:
“The protocol [the HCG diet] was everything that I hoped it would be — no hunger,
no food cravings, no grumpiness, no feeling of deprivation, no fatigue, a dramatic
reshaping of the body with the burning of the secure problem area fat deposits.”
His results have been documented and heralded in Medical Journals around the world. Dr. Simeons then wrote his findings in a book entitled “Pounds and Inches”. Even though the book is filled with medical jargon, it can give the reader a thorough understanding of how the diet came to be and the research that went into its findings.
The HCG diet is broken down into the 5 phases listed below. The only one of these phases that may vary in length is phase 2 depending on the length of the program you do.
